Esmod-Dubai injects a fresh batch of fashionistas into
the city. Thousands of people flocked to the main atrium at Wafi Mall last week to celebrate the graduation of ‘Made in UAE’ fashion designers Esmod–Dubai. The 10 graduating designers, who came from eight different countries, staged a private fashion show that featured 90 models adorned in their creations.
The director and founder of Esmod Dubai arrived at the event wearing a dress designed by local designer Walid Atallah.
The showcase was followed by an award ceremony to honour the best student designers for this year. In the Stage & Movie Costume category, Canelle Hostal won the Best Fashion Designer Award, Ivana Rosova won the Best Pattern Making Award and Olla Makeeva won the Jury Award.
In the New Couture & Haute Couture category, Balkees Wahbeh won the Best Pattern Making Award and Rasha Abou El Naja won the special Jury Award and Best Designer Award.
In the Ready-to-Wear category, Chloe Allan won the Best Fashion Designer Award and Natalie Brown won the Best Pattern Making Award. Finally, the Esmod Dubai Golden Needle Award went to Canelle Hostal.
The fashion show featured prominent personalities from the fashion world who served as members of the jury, including Satoru Nino, president of Esmod International; Franck Duquenne, sales director of Christian Lacroix; Bernard Hoffman, director of Galeries Lafayette Dubai; Eisa Al Ansari, chairman of Al Ansari Group; Frédéric Molenac, artist; Dominique Borg, costume designer; Stephane Couvé-Bonnaire, textile creator and Mohamed Abdel Haleem, emergency recovery specialist.

MICKAEL CASOL, chief executive officer of CASOL is invited as guest speaker to share his knowledge on how to transform art into fashion and on the fashion industry.

STRIKES AGAIN WITH AN ELABORATE FASHION SHOW.
On the theme ‘Art and Fashion’ students have elaborated stuning intricate and delicate outfits along with ingeniousness. As Art has always been a great source of inspiration for designers,students discovered and analyzed classic, moderns and contemporary artists, they practiced different technics and mediums, then proposed their own interpretation of an art piece of their choice by actually creating a new one, followed by the transposition of their creations onto a garment.

WINS THE SWAROVSKI YOUNG DESIGNER RUNNER UP AWARD.
Selina Farooqui, 1st year student in the Diploma Program
designed and created a dress based on the competition theme
Art of Intimacy. Her dress gives off an aura of warmth, softness,
purity and most importantly the feeling of romance and being
deeply in love with someone.The gown is decorated with handmade roses, orchids and lilacs, symbolizing passion, delicate beauty and first love.
Paying careful attention to detail and creating a symbolic meaning
with the embellishments, makes wearing this gown a personal and
intimate experience for the bride. The sunray pleated body
of the gown is inspired by waterfalls. Focusing on the idea of
